Tonia Khouri Speaks in Support of Fox Ridge and Lincoln Elementary Parents
A special school district meeting was held at Wredling Middle School on Feb. 20 to discuss proposals that would change elementary school boundaries district-wide in St. Charles and repurpose Fox Ridge Elementary School as an early childhood center.
Tonia Khouri was there to speak in support of parents in their effort to ask the board to consider different options.
A portion of Tonia’s statement to the District 303 School Board is below:
“Having researched this current issue of redistricting and possibly closing schools, I’m not convinced that you all have all the necessary information you need and you have not been given enough time to make a thorough and educated decision that will affect hundreds of families in the St. Charles area.”
“I’m here today to humbly suggest to this board that you establish a Redistricting Committee Task Force that would include members of your board, members of the St. Charles City Council, parents, and your finance staff.”
“That way you will have the adequate amount of time necessary to review all of the pertinent information required to make the best decision for your school district.”
“Taking a step back and reevaluating your decision would benefit your constituents and their children.”

Lincoln Elementary School in St. Charles spared from closure
Elementary boundary changes, Fox Ridge repurposing still on table
ST. CHARLES – St. Charles District 303 officials have taken a recent proposal to close Lincoln Elementary School off the table.
“The board does not think that closing Lincoln serves the district’s purpose now,” School Board President Kathy Hewell said.
Hewell made this statement after residents’ comments and board discussion during a special district meeting held at Wredling Middle School on Feb. 20.
Still under board consideration is another proposal announced in January – to change elementary school boundaries district-wide and to repurpose Fox Ridge Elementary School as an early childhood center.
The proposal calls for reassigning an estimated 700 students district-wide to different schools. The board’s idea in February possibly to add the Lincoln closure to that proposal would have required reassigning 950 students districtwide.
